Adobe halts development for the iPhone |
Adobe announced today that they are ceasing development on their flash plugin for Apple's iPhone. The move comes right after Apple introduced new policies regarding compilers for 3rd party developers.
"Essentially, this has the effect of restricting applications built with a number of technologies, including Unity, Titanium, MonoTouch, and Flash CS5," Chamber wrote. "While it appears that Apple may selectively enforce the terms, it is our belief that Apple will enforce those terms as they apply to content created with Flash CS5." Adobe will still provide the ability to target the iPhone and iPad in Flash CS5, but the company is "not currently planning any additional investments in that feature," he said.
Fortunately, Adobe will now redirect those resources to supporting flash on Google's android...a move that will anger Apple even more. "Fortunately, the iPhone isn't the only game in town," Mike Chambers, Flash platform product manager, iterated on his blog.
Lines are definitely being drawn for a war in the mobile world, and it seems that Adobe has picked their side.
