Sprint will no longer release WiMAX smartphones to the market as the carrier is in the process of switching over to 4G LTE service. Although Sprint was the first carrier to introduce 4G service, they chose WiMAX technology. This service proved to be slower than LTE, which has been adopted by Verzion and Sprint. Sprint had officially announced its swich to LTE a few months ago. Sprint unveiled its first LTE-based smartphones at CES last week with the introduction of the LG Viper and Samsung Galaxy Nexus. These devices are not expected to launch until the second half of the year.
