US smartphone buyers choosing iPhone 4s says study

Description

The iPhone 4S is a gradual step over the iPhone 4 improving the internals, but keeping the look and feel. At the same time, though, it brings a reworked iOS 5 and introduces Siri, a personal voice assistant allowing you to vocally communicate with the iPhone. It comes with a 3.5" screen with a resolution of 640 x 960 pixels, but on the inside there's a twice more powerful dual-core A5 processor. It also improves connectivity a notch, bringing 14.4Mbps HSPA download speeds. The back is where an 8-megapixel camera resides and it's capable of recording 1080p videos. CNET Reviews - Apple iPhone 4s Reviews

The good: Apple's iPhone 4S has a faster processor and an upgraded camera, all the benefits of iOS 5, and a useful and immensely fun voice assistant. Call quality on the Sprint model is admirable, and the data speeds, while certainly not 4G, get the job done. The bad: It's about time we get a larger screen. The bottom line: The iPhone 4S isn't the king of cell phones, but it's part of the royal family nonetheless. Even without 4G and a giant screen, this phone's smart(ass) voice assistant, Siri, the benefits of iOS 5, and its spectacular camera make it a top choice for anyone ready to upgrade.

It's easy to dismiss the iPhone 4S as just a souped up iPhone 4. It's equally easy to laud it for what upgrades is does pack in and ignore valid criticisms about the lack of change in its design. The truth lies somewhere between these extremes though. We do feel the design could do with refreshing for more than just the sake of styling and there is room for improvement on the hardware specs front - yes these things do matter. What's more, despite big improvements in its software, there are still a few holes enthusiasts would rather filled. When it comes to the crunch, though, there's a compelling easiness to using it, the hardware is very well put together and the massive advantage it has on the app front makes it a tempting proposition. If you can afford it.
